My Next Tournament

For someone who doesn't care for tournaments, I seem to be spending a lot of time fishing in them these days. I fished in the last Yak Tribe tournament a couple months ago and was fortunate enough to win it. While I initially had no intentions of fishing it again, after receiving the prizes from the last tournament, I have changed my mind. One of the prizes I won was a custom built rod from Leviathan Rods. It exceeded all my expectations and it just so happens they are sponsoring the next tournament as well so I will be returning to defend my championship and hopefully do well enough to win another rod. First place in the next tournament also wins a Louisiana houseboat vacation package in addition to all the other great prizes.

This tournament format is very different from the last one. It is still an 8 fish limit with total length winning but 6 of the 8 fish have to be within certain parameters which are shown below. Their goal of changing the format is to make the tournament more competitive and give everyone a chance to win. This new scoring system will prevent anyone from running away with the lead like I was able to do last time.

Bottom line is that this is a two fish tournament when you get right down to it. Everyone near the top of the leaderboard will have maxed out their 6 slots as close as possible to the limit. This means the two biggest fish will most likely determine the winner. My plan is to try to get my six slot catfish as early in the tournament as possible so I can spend the rest of the month targeting big fish. I plan on throwing big baits all month long.

I will be filming every day I am on the water for this tournament, but I don't intend on posting a video for every day I fish like I did in the last one. Because I will be fishing some big fish or bust type places and using large baits, I figure there will be some days that I just get skunked. Having a skunk day isn't an issue when fishing in a month long tournament but they don't make for a good YouTube video. Rest assured, I will be posting a video for the days I do well though. The tournament runs from August 15th through September 15th. Follow me on Facebook and Instagram @kayakcatfish for live updates as I catch fish to submit.
